The President of peace and institutional stability, Alfred Moisiu, turns 96 today

Former President of Albania Alfred Moisiu, today, December 1, turns 96 years old.
Alfred Moisiu was born on December 1, 1929. He is one of the most respected figures of the Albanian state.
With a deep military background, Moisiu was educated at the most prestigious academies of the time in the Soviet Union, specializing in military engineering.
After the 1990s, he stood out as a professional and impartial voice in the processes of reforming the Armed Forces and as a figure who promoted political dialogue. From 2002–2007 he served as President of the Republic, a period in which he maintained an institutional profile, away from controversy, earning a reputation as the "president above the parties".
His mandate was praised for his balanced approach, support for Euro-Atlantic integration and constructive role on the political scene. Even after the end of his mandate, Alfred Moisiu has remained present in Albanian public life as a voice of reason and institutional memory, commenting with prudence on issues of security, the rule of law and democracy.
Today, on his birthday, Alfred Moisiu is remembered as a symbol of prudence and stability, a president who left a mark for his calm, measured, and institutional style.
Biography
He was born on December 1, 1929 in Shkodër, the son of Spiro Koxhobashi. In 1941 - 1945 he attended the Tirana Gymnasium. In 1946 - 1948 he attended the Military Engineering School of the Soviet Union. In 1949 - 1951 he was an instructor at the "Skënderbej" Military Academy.
From 1958 to 1966 he was an officer in the Engineering Directorate of the Ministry of Defense.
In 1966 - 1971 he was appointed commander of the "Heavy Bridges" Brigade in Kavaja. In 1971 - 1981 he was director of Engineering and Fortification at the Ministry of Defense. In 1981 - 1982 he was deputy minister of defense and then commander of the Engineering Company in Burrel until 1984. From 1985 to 1991 he was retired. In 1991 - 1992 he was appointed minister of defense.
From 1992 to 1994, he was an advisor to the Minister of Defense, Safet Zhulali.
In 1994 - 1997 Deputy Minister for Defense Policy and from 1994 to 2002 President of the Albanian Atlantic Association. He retired from 1997 to 2002, when he was elected President of the Republic by the parliament on June 24 and took office on July 24, replacing Rexhep Meidani. Moisiu held this position until July 24, 2007, when President Bamir Topi, elected by the Albanian Parliament on July 20, 2007, took over as head of state.
He is the author of many writings, articles and studies published in the Albanian and foreign press, on the problems of military art, defense policy and regional security, as well as on developments in Kosovo.
