Meat prices rise, Albania with a 6.2% increase

Meat prices are rising sharply in many European countries, hitting consumers' pockets as food inflation remains high in many markets. The latest data shows that meat prices (both beef and lamb) have seen significant annual increases in 2025, although the level of pressure varies greatly from country to country.

For beef and veal, countries such as the Netherlands (23%), Croatia (22.4%) and Latvia (20.8%) recorded very high price increases, while the European Union average was around 10%.

In comparison, Albania maintained a more moderate growth of around 6.2%, being below the EU average and well below countries with double-digit inflation. In the region, Kosovo also experienced notable growth, with beef prices responding with higher growth than Albania, marking approximately 14.1% in 2025, while North Macedonia also recorded growth of over 12%.

For lamb and goat meat, increases were lower in some countries, but still significant in countries such as Kosovo (around 15.2%) and Poland (13.5%), while prices in Albania increased by around 4.2%, one of the lowest levels in Europe.

These changes are related to factors such as production conditions, supply constraints and consumer demand, causing some countries to feel the increase in meat prices more strongly than others.

For consumers in Albania and Kosovo, this means that meat prices have increased, but in Albania the impact has been more moderate compared to EU countries. In Kosovo, the pressure on prices is higher, weighing on household budgets more than in Albania. Food inflation remains an ongoing challenge for European economies, and its impact is significantly divided between countries with different production and consumption markets./ EuronewsAlbania
