Trump warned that he will release UFO files, Hegseth: We will find out if...

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has given an update on the Donald Trump administration's plans to release government files related to extraterrestrial life and unidentified flying objects (UFOs).

Last week, Trump stated that he would instruct Hegseth to begin identifying and declassifying documents related to UFOs and the possibility of alien life.

According to a 2021 study by the Pew Research Center, 65% of Americans believe that intelligent life could exist on other planets.

On Monday, Hegseth was in Colorado as part of the Defense Department's "Arsenal of Freedom" tour, where he visited two private space companies. In an interview aired by C-SPAN, he was asked if he ever imagined he would be at the helm of the process of revealing information about extraterrestrial life to the American public.

"I didn't have it in mind at all," he replied.

Asked if he is willing to oversee this process, Hegseth said that the relevant structures are already working. "Of course, we have our people working on this issue. I don't want to speculate on the time it will take. We are working and we will be fully compliant with the executive order, committed to presenting this to the president. There will be more details regarding the process and the steps that we will take," he said.

As for a specific deadline, Hegseth said there is no final date yet. “I don’t have a timeline for you yet, but we will,” he declared.

Asked if he personally believes in the existence of aliens, he replied curtly: "We'll see," adding that he would examine the issue and reach conclusions together with the public.

Interest in extraterrestrial life has increased significantly in recent years, especially after statements by former President Barack Obama during an interview with political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen.

At one point in the conversation, Obama jokingly replied "they're real" when asked about aliens, but immediately clarified that he had never seen such evidence and dismissed claims that extraterrestrial creatures are being held at Area 51.
