Accused of passive corruption, GJKKO sentences two former IMT inspectors

The GJKKO has announced the decision on criminal proceedings no. 12/1 of 2024 of the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime, against the defendants Klajdi Zhilla and Geraldo Fuçija, charged with the criminal offense of "Passive corruption of persons exercising public functions", in collaboration.
According to the official announcement, the case was reviewed under the summary trial procedure. The panel of judges Rudina Palloj, Flojera Davidhi and Bib Ndreca ruled in favor of both defendants.
Initially, each of them was sentenced to 3 years in prison, but in application of Article 406/1 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, due to the summary trial, the sentence was reduced by one third, ultimately being set at 2 years in prison.
Pursuant to Article 59 of the Criminal Code, the Court decided to suspend the execution of the prison sentence and place them on probation for a period of 2 years, provided that they do not commit another criminal offense and maintain contact with the Probation Service covering their place of residence.
Also, each was given the additional punishment of "Revocation of the right to exercise public functions" for a period of 5 years.
The court also decided to lift the "Arrest in Prison" security measure previously imposed on the defendants and ordered their immediate release from detention, unless they are being held due to another decision.
