Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, stressing the need for an immediate ceasefire and a return to a "political and diplomatic solution," the Kremlin announced.
During the call, Pezeshkian thanked Russia for its solidarity and briefed Putin on the latest developments in the conflicts in the region.
Tensions have escalated since US and Israeli attacks on Iran last Saturday, which killed hundreds of people, including the Iranian supreme leader and senior military officials.
Tehran's response included drone and missile attacks on Israel and several Arab countries that host US targets.
