Iran War/ Turkey Open to Demining Operations in Hormuz After Peace Deal
Turkey may consider participating in multinational mine-clearing operations in the Strait of Hormuz if a peace deal is reached between the US and Iran, Turkish state news agency Anadolu reported, citing Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
Speaking to reporters in London, Fidan said Turkey "would be open" to joining a coalition aimed at clearing naval mines in the strait once an agreement is reached, describing it as a "humanitarian" effort.
However, he stressed that Ankara will not participate in operations that could position Turkey as a party to a new conflict. According to him, the country will avoid any role that could imply alignment in the event of a resumption of clashes.
Fidan said that a comprehensive agreement could restore a negotiated status quo, guaranteeing free and tariff-free passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Otherwise, the parties will have to seek new ways to resolve the issue.
