Arrest/Perpetrator after attack: I wanted to shoot Trump administration

The perpetrator, Cole Thomas Allen, who opened fire outside the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCD) dinner, which was also attended by President Donald Trump, told officers after his arrest that he wanted to shoot Trump administration officials.

The annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner had just begun when a loud commotion was heard at the entrance to the hall. Then there were shouts of "Down! Down!"

Attendees immediately lay on the floor, many holding up cell phones to record video, as the president and first lady Melania Trump, who had been seated at the center table in an elevated position facing the guests, were escorted away by security guards.

Secret service agents entered the room heavily armed. Security forces then ordered the guests, journalists, ministers, politicians and various dignitaries, to leave the large hall located in the first basement of the hotel.

In the videos that have been made public, President Trump is sitting at the head table with, among others, Vice President JD Vance and his spokeswoman Caroline Levitt, as well as journalists, while shots are heard.
