Prime Minister Andrej Babis is categorical: Czech Republic rejects guarantees for financing Ukraine

The Czech Republic will not accept any guarantees for financing Ukraine, new Prime Minister Andrej Babis, who officially takes office these days, said on Monday. According to him, the European Commission must find alternative ways to financially support Ukraine.
The statement comes as European Union leaders are expected to discuss a new financial plan for Ukraine next week. The plan envisions a complex loan that could draw on frozen Russian assets as well as guarantees from EU member states.
Babis has been outspoken against the Czech Republic's involvement in this financial mechanism. "We will not accept guarantees for anything and we will not invest money in it," he said in a video posted on social media.
The new Czech prime minister's stance signals a tougher line on his country's financial involvement in European initiatives to support Ukraine, adding to debates within the European Union about how and how much financial aid should be distributed.
