US lifts some sanctions, Belarus releases over 100 prisoners! Among them is the Nobel Peace Prize winner

Belarus has released more than 100 prisoners, including Nobel Prize winner Ales Bialiatski and opposition activist Maria Kolesnikova, while the US agreed to lift some sanctions.

Minsk released a total of 123 prisoners following talks between President Alexander Lukashenko and US President Donald Trump's special envoy for Belarus, John Coale.

The US agreed to lift sanctions on potash, a key fertilizer ingredient and an important export for Belarus, a historic ally of Russia.

"The United States is lifting sanctions on potash. I think this is a very good step from the United States towards Belarus. We are lifting them now," he said.

Kolesnikova was sentenced four years ago to a long prison sentence after being found guilty of attempting to seize power illegally.
