Crisis in Britain, Prime Minister Starmer determined: My mandate as leader is not over, I will not resign!

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has ruled out resigning or setting a deadline for his departure, despite growing pressure within the Labour Party following an internal leadership crisis.
His official spokesman, Tom Wells, stated that "there will be no timetable for departure" and that Starmer "continues to govern", signaling stability at the head of the British executive.
Starmer's position has been significantly weakened after around 100 Labour MPs called for his resignation following poor results in local elections. There has also been strong criticism from within the cabinet, with Energy Secretary Ed Miliband demanding a clear leadership transition plan.
The internal crisis has fueled speculation about a possible leadership race, although no candidate has yet achieved the necessary support of 81 MPs to enter the official voting process.
Among the names mentioned as potentially strong is Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, who is expected to target a Westminster seat to challenge Starmer. Health Secretary Wes Streeting has also left open the possibility of running in any leadership contest.
During a visit to the Labour Party headquarters in London, Starmer stated that he is focused on governance and fulfilling promises to citizens:
“I am focused on the work I have been asked to do… to serve my country and deliver results,” he said, emphasizing that the government must continue with the promised reforms.
He also called on party members to support the candidate who will be elected for the Makerfield by-election, describing the current political battle as a direct confrontation with Reform UK.
