Quarrel between doctors in Tirana, head nurse reports gynecologist

The urgent admission of a woman who was due to give birth to her baby into the operating room has caused a physical conflict between a doctor and the head nurse at the "Queen Geraldine" maternity hospital in Tirana.

The clash between two Albanian healthcare workers was recorded in early January 2026, where the patient who was expecting to give birth was also present in this fight between the doctor and the head nurse.

After an event that surprised almost the entire medical staff at the "Queen Geraldine" maternity hospital, Tirana police arrested the doctor, Julian Habibaj.

While the prosecutor in the case, Petrit Vukaj, requested the imposition of the measure of "prison arrest" against him, accusing him of the criminal offense of "Assault due to duty". But it was the Tirana court that rejected the prosecutor's request, imposing the measure of "Compulsion to appear" for the gynecologist, Julian Habibaj.

This event was reported by the head nurse of the Obstetric operating room, Rabije Allaraj, who stated that she was hit and grabbed by the throat with both hands by Doctor Habibaj.

Around 2:00 PM, I was in the operating room. Doctor Julian Habibaj came and told me: “…there is an operation…” After these words, head nurse Rabije Allaraj stated that she went to the patient, saw the chart, and her duty was to check the medical chart with a consultation and signature.

"...there I saw that the patient, who had been admitted to the hospital since morning, did not have a medical consultation for today, which is the main thing for the operation..." - stated the head nurse.

The latter then took the card and went to the doctor, to whom she told him: "...the patient's card is without today's consultation and without a signature...". According to her, the card only had one consultation dated December 31, 2025.

"...I told the doctor to fill out the card, sign it and start the operation with the patient. However, doctor Julian Habibaj took the card from me and threw it on the ground out of anger. I told him: "...doctor, take it easy...". But he approached me and put his hands around my neck, squeezing me tightly and letting go..." - said the head nurse.

"...at that moment no one intervened. The doctor threw my phone on the ground, while I said: "...give me your phone so I can make a video because that's how you want it...". Further, after throwing the phone, Habibaj approached me again, scaring me. During the communication, he told her that he would strangle her and communicated with her in high, harsh tones and threatening her life. One of the colleagues named Dh.B intervened, who spoke to her and told her what she was doing. At this time, we went out of the locker room into the corridor..." - said head nurse Rabije Allaraj.

Five other doctors were also questioned in connection with this case, including the protagonist of this conflict, Julian Habibaj. The latter has given explanations as a person against whom investigations are underway on the charge of "assault in the line of duty".

Habibaj clarified that there was no physical contact with the head nurse, Rabije Allaraj. He indicated that the reason for the conflict was the head nurse's obstruction of a patient who had been hospitalized for 24 hours.

"...the patient had two surgical deliveries and remained for over 24 hours with ruptured membranes. With an uncertain baby condition in these conditions as well as pain and uterine contractions that could risk uterine rupture. The reason for the debate was to perform the surgery without delay in order not to endanger the lives of the mother and child. Moreover, the approval of the head of Obstetrics and the anesthesiologist responsible for performing the surgery for the patient in question had been obtained..." - testified doctor Juljan Habibaj.

Asked if he objected to Rabija asking him to complete the necessary documentation before taking the patient into the operating room, the doctor stated that he did not object because he had completed his part of the documentation.

"...I did not push or attack this citizen..." - the doctor claimed./ Syri.net
