Will the Iranian national team be allowed in the World Cup? Trump: They are welcome, but...

In an ongoing debate over Iran's participation in this summer's FIFA World Cup, US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the national team is welcome to participate in the tournament but that it would not be "appropriate", citing security concerns.
"The Iranian national team is welcome at the World Cup, but I really do not believe it is appropriate for them to be there, for their lives and safety," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
Sports Minister Ahmad Donyamali said Wednesday that Iran will not participate in the World Cup — co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico — due to the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in US-Israeli airstrikes in Tehran on February 28.
"Considering that the US has killed our leader, under no circumstances can we participate in the World Cup," Donyamali told state television.
