Following the arrest of Dugagjin Berisha, 27, as part of the police operation codenamed "Barriera", new details have emerged about how his arms trafficking activity was documented.
According to information provided by journalist Xhensila Kodra, the officers of Police Station No. 4 had received information that Berisha would travel to Tirana and then to the Fresku area to sell the previously seized pistols. He has been kept under surveillance since crossing the Morini Border Crossing Point, where he entered the territory of Albania in a “Volkswagen” type car.
The police announced that they had previously, using undercover agents, purchased 2 pistols from Berisha in Fresk, to document his criminal activity. This action was taken to collect concrete evidence of arms trafficking and to prevent their distribution on the illegal market.
Preliminary investigations show that Berisha is suspected of having committed similar acts earlier, indicating a continuous activity of trafficking firearms towards the Tirana area.
The procedural materials and evidence collected were referred to the Prosecution for further action, while the Police continue investigations to identify others involved in the arms trafficking network.
This case highlights the focus of the Tirana Police on preventing arms trafficking and cracking down on criminal networks, using proactive methods and undercover agents to collect evidence.
