UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed his concern about the impact of the disruption of maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil and fertilizer trade.
“I am deeply concerned about the restrictions on the rights and freedoms of navigation in this region, which are disrupting the flow of oil, fertilizers and other vital raw materials and are disrupting the global economy,” Guterres said.
He stressed that “as in any conflict, all of humanity pays the price, despite the fact that a few benefit greatly. The suffering will be felt for a long time.”
The Secretary-General called on "all parties" to allow free passage of ships to avoid a deeper global economic crisis.
