Doctors warn: Cocaine use among young people increases by 30%

Drug use among young people is increasing by 30%. The alarm is sounded by specialist doctors, gathered at a conference on lifestyle and risk prevention, mainly among young people.
"What we see as a trend is that if cannabis was the first and most consumed substance, now cocaine use prevails even at young ages. Cocaine consumption has a characteristic and a certain group with a different psychosocial level than cannabis. Lowering the age of cocaine use further increases physical, moral and mental health problems, as well as living conditions. In 20-30% of cases, in the last two years we have seen an increase in cocaine. In second place is cannabis, which is a normalized substance," says toxicologist Sonila Bitri Tivari.
Most of those who use cocaine have previously experimented with cannabis or have been involved in trafficking groups.
"Cannabis serves as a stepping stone substance. Cannabis was the first substance they used and then they moved on to cocaine and harder drugs. They are usually distributors of the substance," says Tivari.
According to specialists, what is worrying is the fact that cannabis users treat the latter as a drug and not as a narcotic substance.
"Individuals who consume cannabis are young and normalize the use of cannabis, considering it as a drug. They have no intention of stopping it, because in their minds it is not a drug, it is not a substance. Cannabis is found in 11-12-year-olds, while cocaine is found in 18-year-olds," adds the toxicologist.
Doctors say that if drug use starts as an experiment, quitting is very difficult. Only 30% manage to do so, as most stop treatment and follow-up with specialists./ Tv Klan
