Renowned Hollywood director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele have been found dead in their home in the popular Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Authorities have opened a murder investigation after the two bodies were found in unspecified conditions following an emergency call for medical assistance that came in at around 3:38 p.m. local time on Sunday.

Upon arrival at the scene, authorities have confirmed that Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Reiner, 68, were pronounced dead at the scene, and there are currently no suspects or people connected to the incident.

Los Angeles police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of death, while refusing to provide details on any possible injuries or the use of weapons.

Deputy Chief of Police Alan Hamilton said the couple's bodies were kept inside the home for more than six hours after the emergency call, and that coroners will determine the cause of death. Robbery homicide investigators have been called to investigate the circumstances of the deaths.
