Sali Berisha is the only candidate for the Democratic Party's leader. DP MP Tritan Shehu says he will vote for him, considering him the right figure for the moment the country is going through. "I have said that I will vote for Sali Berisha and I believe that Albania needs him in this difficult moment for his skills and role in creating a broader union," he said.
According to him, the fact that there is only one candidate in the race is a normal development and can be seen as a kind of referendum within the party. " When there is a single candidate, the membership votes and I hope that it will vote for Sali Berisha. This mechanism is not artificial and the statute does not prohibit the candidacy of a single candidate," said Shehu. Commenting on the disallowance of Ervin Salianj's candidacy and the disqualification of other candidates, such as Mereme Sela and Vladimir Mulaj, the MP emphasized that candidates must have political authority and be an active part of the party.
He also says that Salianji is no longer a member of the Democratic Party, underlining that in politics there is also self-exclusion when an individual no longer conforms to the party line. In conclusion, he emphasized that the competition within the DP exists even with a single candidate and ruled out the possibility of creating artificial candidates just to complete the process.
