Journalist Poli Hoxha commented on "This Week" on News24 on the latest political developments in the country, focusing on the debates and critical positions within the Socialist Party, as well as the reactions of well-known figures such as Elisa Spiropali and Erion Braçe.
According to Hoxha, the essence of democracy has been forgotten in Albania, where political parties should be at the center, while today they, according to him, have become the main problem due to their capture and weakening. He emphasized that critical voices within the parties have started to return, whether for personal reasons or disappointment, adding that a part of the membership is leaving, while others are raising their voices. In this context, he also mentioned precedents such as the “Movement for Different Thinking” in 2012, which according to him was suppressed.
Commenting on the public appearances of Erion Braçe and Elisa Spiropali, Hoxha stated that they are not accidental and that they are essentially articulating issues related to meritocracy, competition and free thought within the party.
According to him, Erion Braçe in particular is “doing a service” by highlighting internal problems, adding that these developments are exposing Prime Minister Edi Rama. “Rama has started this tour because he has received signals from the grassroots,” said Hoxha, adding that the prime minister’s recent meetings with mayors show a change in approach, compared to previous positions. In his analysis, the journalist highlighted that discussions on statutes, meritocracy and the opening of parties have now become part of the public debate in both the Socialist Party of Albania and the Democratic Party of Albania.
"We are seeing symptoms that it has been forgotten that at the core of democracy lie the parties. We have forgotten the parties. Here in Albania, the parties are the biggest problem, their capture and their destruction. Then we have this government. They have started to wake up. Some for personal reasons, some in disappointment, there has always been a simmering base, even in the SP and the DP. Those who get bored and leave. Since the voices against have returned, like Spiropali and Braçe, in 2012 the Movement for a Different Thinking was born, it was ruthlessly suppressed.
There were personalities in it, Marko Bello, Malaj, Meksi. It is a movement for different thinking. The emergence of Braçe is not accidental. Sometimes it seems like it is a collaboration (Spiropali and Braçe).
Braçja has moved forward with theses, but so has Spiropal today. Every supreme leader needs someone like Braçe. Braçe has now started to say the essence. In both parties, meritocracy, competition and free thought are being discussed. The PS did not come when Rama came to power. Braçe spoke about the statute. Braçe is doing a service, which is exposing Rama 'naked'. It does not matter whether Braçe will run or not, or Salianji on the other hand. Rama has had meetings with the mayors, while in previous meetings he ignored them, today he grabbed them by the throat. Rama has started this tour for this, because he has received signals from the base," Hoxha claimed.
