Tensions Escalate! Iran-Iraq Border Crossing Closed After Deadly Attack

Iraq has closed the Shalamcheh border crossing with Iran after an Iraqi citizen was killed by airstrikes on Iranian territory.

This point is considered a key artery for the supply of food from Iran to Iraq, so any prolonged disruption is expected to directly affect local markets. The attacks also seriously injured five Iraqi citizens, after a passenger waiting area on the Iranian side of the border was hit.

Witnesses reported the presence of drones shortly before the explosions, while Iraqi border authorities announced that movement is expected to resume soon, once transit and passport control systems are back in operation.

Meanwhile, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency, another person was killed by shrapnel from a missile following US and Israeli attacks near the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran.
