Albania is experiencing one of the most dynamic phases of digitalization, according to the latest INSTAT data on the use of Information and Communication Technology by the age group 16–74. Statistics show that the internet has become an essential part of daily life, transforming the country into a society where communication, information and digital consumption are growing at a rapid pace.

Another important indicator of digitalization is e-commerce. According to INSTAT, 45.4% of the population aged 16–74 have made online purchases in the last 12 months, marking an increase of about 3 percentage points. The trend of online consumption is most clearly visible in lifestyle products, where clothes, shoes and accessories account for the largest share with 96.5% of purchases. Meanwhile, home food orders from restaurants or fast food outlets account for 61.1% of digital transactions. In the last three months alone, 26.1% of citizens have made online purchases, reinforcing the idea that online sales and service platforms have become part of daily consumption habits. The largest increase since last year was in food purchases.

According to the report, 86.2% of citizens use the internet, and 96.4% of them go online several times a day. This shows a strong dependence on instant access to information, communication and digital services. Smart phones remain the dominant device, with almost all users, 99.9%, connecting to the internet via smartphones, while fewer citizens use laptops (41.2%) or desktop computers (20.9%). Communication through social networks is also now standard, with 99.1% of users making calls via Viber or WhatsApp.

Internet accessibility at the household level is also almost universal. Data shows that 97.7% of Albanian households have an internet connection, a clear indicator of the digital transformation in infrastructure. The majority of households, around 92.1%, use fixed connections, while 99.3% rely on 3G and 4G mobile networks, ensuring constant connectivity at all times.

In the last three months prior to the survey, a significant increase in the use of digital services was observed. Searching for information about products and services has marked the largest increase, by 10.7 percentage points. Similarly, the use of internet banking has seen an increase of 7.7 percentage points, reflecting citizens' increasing trust in online financial services. Participation in social networks, including the creation of profiles or regular interaction, has also increased by 5.7 percentage points./ SCAN
