VIDEO/ Ukraine bombs Russian pipeline in Druzhba, supplying Hungary and Slovakia

Ukraine struck the Druzhba oil pipeline, in the Tambov region of central Russia.

The news was announced by a source close to the Ukrainian military security service (GUR). This is the fifth Ukrainian attack on the pipeline that supplies Russian oil to Hungary and Slovakia, according to Reuters.

Hungary and Slovakia continue to be supplied with energy products from Russia, even after other European Union countries severed ties following the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Ukrainian media reported that the attack involved explosives detonated remotely by remote control.

The Slovak pipeline operator and the Hungarian oil and gas company said later on Monday that supplies through the Druzhba pipeline were operating normally. There was no comment from Russia.

Ukraine attacked the pipeline once in March, twice in August, and once in September of this year.

Kiev says its attacks on energy targets in response to Russia's continued attacks on Ukraine are aimed at undermining Moscow's overall war effort.

Hungary and Slovakia are in favor of importing Russian oil and have vetoed the EU's initiative to block Russian gas and oil as a sanction for the war in Ukraine. Both countries are considered Moscow's economic allies, as they reject sanctions.
