Federica Mogherini acquitted of charges of public procurement fraud and corruption in training programs for young EU diplomats

Former EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Federica Mogherini, who was detained on Tuesday afternoon in Belgium as part of an investigation into the tender for a project to create an EU-funded postgraduate course for young diplomats at the College of Europe in Bruges, has been released.
The Agi news agency reports that Mogherini was detained along with two other Italians, Ambassador Stefano Sannino, former Secretary General of the EEAS, the European body that had initiated the 990,000 euro tender for the 2021-22 course at the College of Europe. Cesare Zegretti, manager of the same prestigious Bruges college, was also detained.
The charges brought by the Federal Prosecutor's Office in Bruges and the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) include fraud in public procurement, corruption, conflict of interest, violation of professional secrecy and unfair competition.
