"It felt like an earthquake" - The TNT attack in Saranda against Isuf

After the explosive attack, in which 58-year-old Isuf Jaçaj died, residents of neighborhood number 3 of Saranda recount the horror they experienced from the powerful explosion.

While expressing regret for the serious incident, two elderly women say that life safety in Saranda is becoming increasingly difficult, due to numerous criminal incidents.

"I heard the explosion, who knows how many tons of dynamite they had put in. Who knows what that father did, who has his son in prison. My blood boiled. I heard the noise and I was scared," said a resident of the area.

While another elderly woman said that the explosion initially felt like an earthquake. "It felt like an earthquake to me," she said.

The explosion caused extensive material damage to surrounding homes and businesses, while police have so far escorted over 10 people, including residents of neighborhood number 3.

It is suspected that the remote-controlled explosion was carried out by two people, while investigations into the case are ongoing.

The victim, also known by the nickname "Bushi", had a criminal past, with violent episodes dating back to before the 2000s. In June 2010, Jacaj was injured after a conflict with sharp objects in neighborhood no. 4, while in October 2011 he escaped a gun attack, also in Saranda. In July 2022, he was involved in another clash, where he was arrested with a punching bag, while another person was caught with a gun.

In recent years, Jacaj had been engaged in the tourism sector, transporting tourists with his speedboat to the coastal areas around Saranda.

The main line of investigation, revenge for the boy

One of the main leads being investigated is that of revenge, in relation to the event of July 17, 2025, where the victim's son, Klaus Jacaj, 31 years old, currently arrested for "supporting the perpetrator of the crime", is suspected of having been involved in a serious criminal event. In that event, Ramadan Zoto injured two people, Gëzim Hajdaraj and Ernest Lama, with a firearm, in neighborhood no. 4 of Saranda.

Just a few days after that incident, on July 21, a person wearing a silicone mask placed explosives in Klaus Jacaj's vehicle, completely destroying it. The case remains unsolved and the perpetrators have not been identified.

Today, at around 22:50, in neighborhood no. 3, Saranda, it is suspected that a quantity of explosive material placed in a Toyota vehicle, owned by citizen IJ, exploded. This citizen is suspected to be the person inside the vehicle who lost his life as a result of the explosion.

The investigation team is at the scene and is continuing its work to identify and apprehend the perpetrator(s), fully clarify the circumstances of the incident, and document it legally.
