Escalation of the Thailand-Cambodia conflict/ Curfew declared and first civilian casualties

Thailand has imposed a curfew after fighting intensified with Cambodia. A rocket attack caused the first civilian casualty, raising concerns about security in border areas. International efforts for a ceasefire have yet to bring an end to hostilities.
Thailand declared a curfew in the southeastern province of Trat on Sunday, following an escalation of fighting with Cambodia in the coastal areas of a disputed border region.
The decision came despite recent statements that the parties had agreed to a ceasefire, mediated by US President Donald Trump.
Thai authorities confirmed that a Cambodian rocket attack killed a 63-year-old civilian, marking the first directly reported civilian casualty from the fighting last week.
Large-scale fighting continued along the two countries' 817-kilometer border, initially sparked by an incident on December 7 in which two Thai soldiers were injured.
The conflict is linked to long-standing territorial disputes, including over areas containing historic temples. According to official figures, more than two dozen people have been killed and over half a million people have been displaced on both sides of the border.
The Thai government stated that it remains open to a diplomatic solution, but stressed that any negotiations require an immediate cessation of hostilities by Cambodia.
Meanwhile, the Thai military announced military operations against infrastructure it said was being used to supply heavy weapons, while Cambodia accused Thailand of attacking civilian targets. Both sides have used heavy artillery, airstrikes, rockets and drones, further deepening the security crisis.
International ceasefire efforts, promoted by the United States and supported by Malaysia, have not yet succeeded in stopping the violence.
President Trump has called for the parties to honor their commitments and warned of accountability for violations. However, conflicting statements from the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia, as well as ongoing clashes on the ground, indicate that the situation remains volatile and at high risk of further escalation.
