The heavy rainfall that has covered part of the territory of the Elbasan District during the afternoon has caused numerous problems in road traffic, creating critical situations on several important axes of the area.
The situation is more problematic on the national axis Qukës-Librazhd, where works are underway to build Corridor VIII.
For more than 40 minutes, vehicle traffic has been almost paralyzed, while the worst-hit area remains the Xhyra area, where dozens of vehicles have remained stuck in traffic.
According to reports from the field, the convoy of vehicles has reached kilometer-long dimensions, while drivers say that traffic is almost completely blocked in both lanes of the road.
Due to the long wait and the lack of an immediate solution, some passengers have chosen to turn back.
Official sources indicate that the situation was created as a result of landslides and the presence of large amounts of mud in the segment near Dragostunja, an area known for its geological problems.
In February of this year, in this same segment, a landslide blocked traffic for about eight hours, as a result of poor quality, depreciation, or abusive tendering.
A road crew is on site working to clear mud and materials deposited on the road, while the Traffic Police are on standby to manage traffic and guide drivers.
Problems have also been reported in the Moglica area of Gramsh, where rainfall has caused landslides and rockslides on several road segments, making movement difficult and increasing the risk for road users.
