Greek man arrested in Britain on suspicion of spying for Iranian intelligence

A 46-year-old Greek citizen has been arrested in Britain on suspicion of spying for an intelligence service believed to be Iranian.
The Counter Terrorism Service in London said the 46-year-old, who lives in Munich, is expected to appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court later today.
According to police, he was arrested on May 16 in West Sussex by detectives from the counter-terrorism unit, under section 27 of the National Security Act 2023, and then taken to a police station in London.
Westminster Magistrates' Court issued a detention order against him, extending his detention until May 30, before charges are approved.
London's Metropolitan Police said authorities do not believe there is a wider threat to the public in relation to this case.
"We know that this situation may be worrying for many people in the UK, particularly those working in Persian-speaking media," said the head of London's Counter-Terrorism Command, Helen Flanagan.
She added that the police are continuing to collaborate with organizations and individuals to provide security advice, including persons and institutions related to the investigation.
