Romania hit by Russian drone, Slovakia's Fico calls for dialogue with Putin

The Prime Minister of Slovakia has expressed his country's solidarity with Romania.

Robert Fico also called for restraint from those making strong statements after a Russian drone hit an apartment block in Romania.

Yesterday, Fico boasted that he was the only EU leader in direct contact with both Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin.

He has spoken out against the war in Ukraine, while also calling for dialogue with Russia.

"We see the conflict in Ukraine as a flagrant violation of international law.

"We have said this repeatedly.

"In this regard, it is even more important to communicate with the Russian side, in the same way as we do with the Ukrainian side."

Earlier this week, he even unveiled a renovated cemetery dedicated to Soviet soldiers, fulfilling a promise he made to Putin this month.

Fico is considered to be Putin's closest ally in the EU, after Viktor Orban was ousted in the recent elections in Hungary.
