The Special Court has accepted Idriz Manej's request to terminate the security measure "prison arrest" and ordered his release from prison. The reason for this decision was the expiration of the pre-trial detention period.
Idriz Manej Manej had addressed the GJKKO requesting the termination of the security measure "prison arrest" that the Elbasan Court had imposed on him on October 1, 2023 for the charges against him as part of the crimes of Leart Haxhiu's group, before the file was transferred to the Special Prosecution Office, which, through the repentant justice Artan Tafani, uncovered a series of events.
The decision in the GJKKO was made by a panel of judges composed of Erjon Çela, Etleva Deda and Elsa Ulliri and according to them, Idriz Manej should be released because the duration of detention served is greater than half of the maximum sentence provided for the criminal offense being prosecuted.
The court ordered the immediate release of the defendant Idriz Manej from the personal security measure "prison arrest", after the authorities carry out verifications and only if he is not held for any other decision of coercive personal security measure "prison arrest", or a final sentence of imprisonment, the decision states.
But the man known as Idriz Manej turns out to have also been convicted of a drug case, for which he was being held in Drenova prison when Tafani spoke out against Laert Haxhiu's group and exposed one of the accomplices in the 2021 crime.
It is up to prison authorities to assess whether or not the 60-year-old has completed his previous sentence.
Idriz Manej, a resident of Shkodra known by the nickname "Gjyshka", is accused of being involved in the murder of Fridman Xhaferaj on June 2, 2021, in connection with the Laert Haxhiu file.
Initially, "Gjyshka" was arrested in November 2021 by the Korça police, during the operation codenamed "Ristart", after, together with Ligor Romaçka, Joni Mosku and another person, attempted to traffic 114 kg of drugs through the Gorica border crossing in North Macedonia.
For this trafficking episode, Idriz Manej pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 8 years in prison.
While serving his sentence in Drenova prison, "Gjyshka" was arrested for the second time, this time by the Elbasan prosecution, which accuses him of participating in the murder of Fridman Xhaferaj in Korça.
According to the account of the Elbasan prosecutor's associate, Artan Tafani, Idriz Manej was part of the group consisting of Laert Haxhiu, Lulzim Spahija, Ligor Romaçka, Mariglen Topuzi and Bledar Berberit.
It is precisely these names, along with the repentant Tafani, who killed Fridman Xhaferaj with a firearm and then threw him into the waters of the Gjançi reservoir in Korça.
