Italian court sentences two Albanian gang leaders to prison terms

An Italian court has sentenced two "heads" of Albanian gangs in Italy. Elvis Demçe was sentenced to 15 years in prison, while Ermal Arapaj was sentenced to 10 years.

Once close friends and then strong opponents of each other, for years they led drug trafficking in Italy between Rome, Acilia and Velletri, where gunfights were often not absent.

Elvis Demçe, known as the "Drug Lord", was sentenced to 18 years in prison in Italy on drug trafficking charges. While Ermal Arapaj, another underworld figure, was sentenced to 16 years, Italian media reported.

The Court of Cassation has reduced Elvis Demçe's sentence by 3 years, while Ermal Arapaj has received a 6-year reduction.

Demçe, who has been rumored to have ties to the notorious Italian Camorra group, had labeled himself: "I am God."

While Arapaj, known as 'Ufo', boss of a rival gang and former friend of Demçe, taking advantage of the latter's periods of imprisonment, attempted to steal his drug trafficking territories. A clash witnessed by various news events including: the ambush of Ermal by Demçe's associates in July 2020 and the fire in a villa in Arapaj in Velletri on September 5 last year.

The investigations into the two Albanians were conducted by prosecutor Mario Palazzi and Francesco Cascini, the latter being a target of Demça who had decided to kill him. But the investigative actions continued and both ended up in handcuffs.
