After protests and lawsuits, Kushner withdraws from plan to build Trump hotel in Serbia

Former US President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, has canceled plans to build a hotel under the "Trump" brand in Serbia, following a wave of public backlash and protests.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Kushner and his private equity firm Affinity Partners have decided to abandon a project to rebuild a building in Belgrade that was bombed by NATO in 1999, to turn it into a luxury Trump-branded tower complex.
The decision comes after strong public pressure and legal lawsuits, including an investigation into a Serbian minister and three other officials involved in the controversial project.
"Since meaningful projects should unite, not divide, and out of respect for the people of Serbia and the city of Belgrade, we are withdrawing our request and are withdrawing at this time," a spokesperson for Kushner's company said.
The Wall Street Journal reported that this decision marks the immediate end of a controversial project that Kushner had been working on for more than two years.
Meanwhile, American media reports that Kushner is returning to the role of international mediator, participating in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, as well as in peace efforts in Gaza.
In addition, he continues to run Affinity Partners, a $4.8 billion private equity fund that invests globally and is funded primarily by Middle Eastern governments. The firm is currently involved in a record $55 billion deal to acquire Electronic Arts, as well as financing the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger bid.
