Vieri: Inter are the favourites for the title, finally 'San Siro' will

Former famous striker, Christian Vieri, has spoken openly about some hot topics in Italian football, from the race for the Serie A title, to the demolition of 'San Siro', to trust in coach Chivu and the growth of young Pio Esposito.

Without hesitation, Vieri started the conversation with a strong opinion about the Milan stadium:

"San Siro will be demolished? Finally! It was time. Milan deserves a modern facility that is at the height of the city. Wembley was also demolished to build a more modern stadium.

"We can't always be left behind. The memories remain, but it's not acceptable not to be able to host big finals like the Champions League or the European Championship just because we don't have a modern stadium."

When asked about the title race, Vieri had no doubts:

"Inter are a step ahead of the others. They have quality, experience and a complete squad.

"Of course, I'm not saying they have to win, because the championship is balanced and anything can happen. But if I had to place a bet, I would go for the Blues."

Vieri also focused on the current Inter coach:

"I've heard a lot of good things about Chivu. They tell me he's a great hardworking coach, a Stakanovist. You need patience and trust in him.

"You can't talk about a crisis or dismissal just because he loses a match against Udinese. He needs time to show his worth."

The former striker also spoke about youngster Pio Esposito, author of an important goal against Cagliari and who is expected to have more space after Thuram's injury:

"I believe he is ready, physically and technically. He knows how to show strength even in the international arena."

"He's hungry, he works hard and he wants to reach the top. It just takes a little time. But above all, he needs to be allowed to play calmly, without unnecessary pressure."

About the pressure that comes with a heavy jersey like Inter's, Vieri was clear:

"Pressure should be a stimulus. The great footballer is the one who turns fear into adrenaline."

"Maybe you don't sleep the night before a derby or a Champions League match, but that's the fuel that pushes you to give your best."

Finally, a comment on the Italian National Team led by Gattuso:

"In the last few matches he has convinced me. It is true that we are struggling a lot to qualify for the World Cup, I don't know why."

"Now we have to win the games that await us, score as many goals as possible and, if we need the play-offs, give it our all. I have faith in Rino and the boys."
