Tehran eases restrictions on Strait of Hormuz, will allow passage of humanitarian aid

Iran's UN ambassador says it will facilitate humanitarian aid through the Strait of Hormuz
Iran will "facilitate and expedite" humanitarian aid passing through the Strait of Hormuz, its ambassador to the United Nations said.
Ali Bahreini said Tehran had accepted a request from the organization to safely allow aid and agricultural shipments via the waterway.
"This measure reflects Iran's continued commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts and ensuring that essential aid reaches those in need without delay," said the ambassador to X.
Earlier, the UN said it was creating a working group to design a mechanism that would keep trade flowing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The strait, through which about a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supplies normally pass, has been effectively closed by Iran since the start of the war, leading to global supply problems and rising prices.
"Immediate action is essential to mitigate these consequences," said spokesman Stephane Dujarric.
