Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, stated that Trump welcomes Iran to the World Cup, but the reaction from Tehran was immediate, with the latter publicly declaring for the first time that they will not participate in the "FIFA2026" World Cup:

"From this moment that this corrupt government, the US, has killed our leader, we have no intention of participating in the World Cup. They have attacked us twice within 8-9 months. Thousands of our citizens have been killed. There is no chance of participating in this World Cup," said the Minister of Sports in Iran.
