"Curse" or Bayern Munich tradition? / For 44 years, every World Cup final has had at least one Bavarian

If World Cup history is to continue to repeat itself, then the teams aiming for the 2026 World Cup final must definitely include at least one Bayern Munich player.
The statistics of the most prestigious football tournament show an extraordinary tradition: in the last 11 consecutive editions of the World Cup, from 1982 to 2022, at least one player from the Bavarian team has always been present in the grand final.
It all started at the 1982 World Cup, when Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Paul Breitner and Wolfgang Dremmler represented West Germany in the final, although they were defeated by Italy. Four years later, Rummenigge, Matthäus and Hoeness failed to stop Diego Maradona's Argentina.
In 1990, Bayern celebrated their first final triumph, as Augenthaler, Kohler and Reuter helped Germany win the trophy against Argentina. Since then, the Bavarians' presence in World Cup finals has become an unbroken tradition.
From Jorginho with Brazil in 1994, to Bixente Lizarazu with France in 1998, to Oliver Kahn and his teammates in 2002, Bayern has always been represented in the most important match in world football.
The peak came at the 2014 World Cup, when Germany won the trophy with seven Bayern Munich players in the lineup, including Neuer, Lahm, Müller, Kroos and Mario Götze, the author of the winning goal in the final.
Even in the last two World Cups, despite Germany's absence from the final, the tradition continued. Corentin Tolisso triumphed with France in 2018, while Upamecano and Kingsley Coman played in the 2022 final.
In the current World Cup, Bayern Munich continues to dominate with 18 players spread across 10 different national teams. Among them, Harry Kane stands out with England and Michael Oliseh with France, while six players represent Germany.
It remains to be seen whether this extraordinary tradition will continue in the 2026 World Cup final.
