High food prices in North Macedonia, Mickoski warns traders: Lower prices or we will intervene! We may publish your names

The Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, announced that today the Government will hold a meeting with distributors, traders and market representatives, sending them a clear message regarding the prices of food products.
According to him, the crisis period is coming to an end and now is the time for businesses to reflect on citizens, who, as he emphasized, have shown patience and tolerance.
"My message will be clear. The crisis is ending, citizens were tolerant, now it is the turn of traders to be polite and immediately start reducing prices, especially for basic food products. I expect a concrete reaction from them," Mickoski declared.
He emphasized that the Government has mechanisms to intervene in case there is no reflection from the market, warning of possible measures in the coming days.
"I do not accept excuses. If there is no reaction from distributors, traders and manufacturers, then the Government will react in a different way ," he said, according to Zhurnal.
Asked by journalists after attending the 2026 Annual Meeting of the CEF Board of Directors, Mickoski did not provide concrete details on the level of price reductions, but stressed that their correction is necessary.
He added that comparisons will be made with prices in the region and did not rule out the possibility that some traders will be published by name if they do not reflect.
"Basic products must be corrected. Citizens have been patient, now it is time for traders to show responsibility. If necessary, we will also publish the names of those who do not respect this request ," the prime minister concluded.
