Germany reacts to protests: Citizens' right, but Albania's internal matter

The German Foreign Ministry has commented on the ongoing protests taking place in Tirana, describing them as an internal political issue of Albania.
During a public appearance, the spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry, Martin Giese, was asked whether the German government is in contact with the protesters in Albania, whether Berlin is informed about their demands, and what it expects from the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama in relation to the protests.
In his response, Giese briefly stated that protest is a democratic right of citizens, but emphasized that the developments in question belong to Albanian internal politics.
“Protests are a right of citizens, but this is an internal political issue in Albania,” said the spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry.
The statement comes at a time when protests in Tirana have been ongoing for days, while the protesters’ demands and political reactions have sparked widespread debate in the country.
