Eberl opens the door to Harry Kane renewal, future negotiations with Bayern star remain main goal

Bayern Munich face a Champions League challenge in Cyprus.
Ahead of the match against the underdogs, Paphos, sporting director Max Eberl spoke about Harry Kane, and also about Dayot Upamecano. Harry Kane's impressive current form is not only seen in the statistics. The striker recently confirmed that he feels at home in Munich and even hinted at a contract extension.
“I think they,” meaning Bayern’s management, “are happy with me, and I am happy with them. So these talks can take place,” the Englishman said after the convincing win over Bremen. It was no surprise that sporting director Max Eberl was asked about Kane at Munich airport before departing for Cyprus. The 52-year-old explained that a collaboration beyond the 2026/27 season was “absolutely possible” for the Bundesliga leaders: “Therefore we will discuss the next steps with him calmly.”
Shortly before flying to Larnaca, Eberl praised Munich's leading scorer as an "absolute leader."
His teammates had also spoken highly of Kane recently. Eberl, in any case, knew it would be “fantastic” for Kane to “win trophies with us, he said so himself. We want to do this with him for a long time.” The fact that Kane would be 34 at the end of his current contract does not bother Eberl.
“I learned from my old mentor, Hans Meyer, that the mix in the team is crucial. If you have a good mix, then you can keep the older players, who are simply exceptional, for a longer period.” And Kane’s current peak form, with 18 direct goal contributions in just eight official matches, speaks for itself. “It’s like he’s tapped into a fountain of youth,” said Eberl.
In addition to Kane, Bayern's sporting director has other important contract negotiations awaiting him in the coming months. One example is Dayot Upamecano. The French defender, who has been in Munich since the summer of 2021, is out of contract at the end of the season. Negotiations recently stalled due to Upamecano's increased wage demands. But Eberl is determined to fight for the 26-year-old: "We are trying to convince him to continue with our project. We want to keep him."
