Del Piero analyzes: In Italy, we want strong and fast players. But is that enough?

Speaking to Sky Sport, Alessandro Del Piero commented on the crisis in Italian football, trying to offer some suggestions and solutions.
Crisis in Italian football - "In Italy, we want big, strong and fast players, because that's what football requires now. In France and England, they have players with these characteristics. But it's not like that.
"In Italy, we have always been better at something different, paying attention to talent, technique and different qualities that Spain has 'stolen' from us today."
Solution - "I don't have the answers for everything, but we have to start from a clear premise: today, with the U15, U16 and U17 Italian teams, we do extraordinary things, but in the U21, we don't reach the top, while in my time, we won two consecutive European Championships with the U21.
This is something to analyze: why are we so good at 15 or 16, and then we're not like that anymore? What's missing at that point? And where do these problems come from? What kind of players do we develop? It's a slow process to answer these questions..."
Raising children - "A parent's victory is when their child makes good choices: from what I see, we shouldn't be overprotective and always tell them what to do. And this is reflected in the development of young people. We tell children too much what to do and this kills their creativity."
If we give too many strict instructions, then the new players only know how to do this; they become good in that system, but as soon as they leave it, they make mistakes and are labeled as bad. That's not the case, they are not bad: the problem is that they have only been taught one thing.
They were not taught to solve a problem on their own. In other countries, these problems do not exist; there is no 'stop doing' like here. We live in a context where children need to express their talents and test themselves.
Do you know what my greatest joy was? Challenging my friends. And therefore challenging myself. Video games used to cost money; you had to pay a hundred lire to play, so you were interested. Today, video games are free... "
