Barcelona to complain to UEFA about Romanian referee Kovacs

Barcelona is extremely angry after the defeat at the Camp Nou against Atletico Madrid, where the Catalan leaders fiercely contested several arbitrary decisions.
According to AS reports, the club's dissatisfaction is not so much related to Pau Cubarsí's red card, but rather to the lack of VAR intervention in a key episode: Arnau Pubill's handball after a wrong throw-in by goalkeeper Juan Musso.
Barcelona expected not only a penalty in their favour, but also a second yellow card for the Atletico defender, which would have brought the forces to an equalizer on the pitch. For this reason, the club is considering the possibility of a formal complaint to UEFA about the judgment of the Romanian referee Istvan Kovacs, assisted by the VAR by the German Bastian Dankert.
The Catalans' dissatisfaction, according to Spanish media, is not new. Since the return of Joan Laporta to the club and his clash with UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin, especially regarding the Super League project, Barcelona believes that questionable arbitrary decisions have increased.
The club's record also includes a previous episode with the same referee, such as the red card given to Ronald Araujo in the 2024 quarter-finals against Paris Saint-Germain. There are also clashes with Inter in recent seasons. In 2022/23, a handball by Denzel Dumfries in the area was not punished, while a Pedri goal was disallowed for another handball by Ansu Fati, in a match officiated by referee Slavko Vinčić.
From the protests of former coach Xavi, to the recent reactions of Hansi Flick, who was sent off in a match in Milan last season by Szymon Marciniak, tensions between Barcelona and referees in the European arena appear to remain high.
