The leader of the Mundësia Party, Agron Shehaj, spoke to News24 this afternoon regarding the joint candidate for the Tirana by-elections, where the DP, allies including Mundësia, will come up with a non-party name.
Shehaj expressed his happiness that the DP, according to him, understood that it now needs to come up with a non-partisan candidate to maximize votes.
"Of course I am happy about this. This shows that we really have all the opposition parties that have accepted this formula and want to come up with a candidate who is close to victory, even though we are aware that it is difficult. On a positive note, I am pleased that yesterday he called on other candidates to show their interest."
Shehaj further said that the opposition needs a candidate who maximizes votes.
"They are the candidates who meet the conditions and I am happy that they have declared their interest. The more there are, the more opportunities there are. It is important that we bring out the candidate who has the most chances in the next elections. We can do it in a transparent and Western way possible."
Meanwhile, he invites all opposition allies to hire a foreign polling company that will show from the survey which candidate has a chance of winning against Ogerta Manastirliu.
"I invite opposition parties that want to support a candidate outside the parties and to hire a foreign company to tell us which candidate has a chance of winning. The most fair way to maximize the opposition's opportunities. Two days are more than enough. Many will say that there is no time, two days is not a little. The majority has put us on the condition that the campaign will last a few weeks. The right way to make the right decision, only this is a professional poll."
Shehaj said that this idea for a non-party candidate came about because the opposition has not been winning for a long time and something new needs to be produced.
"I've been thinking about this formula for 3 months. Even if we're late, you won't find the responsibility on me. The opposition will always be in difficulty from the majority. We'll be in difficult conditions. We'll be limited in everything. We'll use the space we have."
We have been producing the same product for 12 years. It is undeniable that the SP got 49% of the votes. The DP got 33-34%, then we are 6%, then the other parties. It is clear that if we continue the same battle in the same form and with the same people. We must produce something new. No one should have complexes.
"Everything we are doing, we are doing in a way, I am happy that the DP finally understood that it cannot persist as it has continued these years. And it understood that a candidate is needed outside of political parties."
