Preç Zogaj, invited to the show "The Unexposed" on MCN TV, recalled the dramatic events of December 1990.
Zogaj recalled a moment when Sali Berisha was being thrown out of a meeting between students and Ramiz Ali's envoys, after he supported Ramiz Ali's demand that students attend classes as a condition for dialogue. Zogaj recalled that he intervened to prevent Berisha from being thrown out.
"I was called by Shinasi and Azem. I stopped him because I thought it was an unfair action. I want to speak for a right, the other person cannot be thrown out because he expressed a different opinion. If it started like that... This is on December 10, a decisive meeting on the terms of the dialogue.
He was told that dialogue cannot be held while protesting. The discussion was whether or not we should go to class. Some of us said, these people have the square, if they go to class they have nothing else. He exploded, because Saliu said pluralism is important. I told him, if he starts like this, whoever has a different opinion should go outside…
"There are 3-4 cases where I was at a point in Berisha's career where I was at the bottom and I helped him," Zogaj said.
Zogaj also spoke about the birth of the Democratic Party, which very quickly had a divorce from students and intellectuals, ending up in a party with a populist approach.
"A political party is formed. The party begins, the elbow-wrestling begins, the history that followed it, even to this day, the inability to manage diversity. Students leave, the DP breaks off the connection. Azem has stayed longer despite all the contradictions, but the symbiosis is interrupted. It was born as a popular intellectual student party.
The first interruption of the symbiosis occurs, which is followed by a second interruption, the interruption with the intellectual component. The status was conceived by several minds, Leka Meksi made the idea of the party with papers.
"The status was decided, the term limit was conceived, intellectual thought was advanced. Then the symbiosis with students and then intellectuals was interrupted. As a result, the party devolved into a populist approach," Zogaj said, among other things.
