Revolt against Rama/ Journalist and researcher Ilir Ikonomi: Only one man has

Journalist and researcher Ilir Ikonomi has reacted to the massive protests in Tirana that have been demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama for two weeks.

He criticized Prime Minister Rama for not listening to the voices of citizens and youth, stressing that in history it has often happened that a single individual holds hostage the aspirations of an entire people.

"It must be the first time in the world that a protest like this has happened. That's why the world media cannot explain it. Today I heard two young people who said that they would return to live in Albania if the corrupt caste leaves. Is there anything more beautiful than the return of a young population that is today considered lost, gone?  Only one person has closed his ears and does not listen. As usually happens in history when a SINGLE person holds an entire people and youth hostage ," Ikonomi writes in a Facebook post.

He says he is following the protest from Washington and feels like he is present among the protesters. The long-time Voice of America journalist expressed admiration for the way young people are organizing and communicating their messages through memes, videos, and articulations, which he described as intelligent.

"I'm following the protest from Washington and it feels like I'm there. I'm amazed by the creativity of these young people. While in such cases the squares of Europe turn into arenas of fights, smoke and fire, ours is an endless river of memes, videos and intelligent articulations. Without violence. Only with love for the country, for the land and for our wonderful nature that some are mercilessly destroying. For a life with dignity," he writes.
