Will there be fewer or more municipalities: Discussions in the reform commission are revealed

Parliament has only 4 months left to approve the territorial reform, before the parliamentary session closes. The DP and the SP have so far not been able to move to the field with the requested hearings, sharing opposing opinions. The majority in Wednesday's meeting requested that in a defined agenda, the members of the commission hold meetings in each municipality with the mayors of the municipalities, the heads of the municipal councils of the majority and the opposition, experts from the area and finally with residents.
For the opposition, such a proposal would push the deadlines too far, as the agenda in this form would take too long, according to them. Under these conditions, the opposition demands that the mayors and political representatives be summoned to a hearing in the parliamentary commission. The opposition demanded that the hearings on the ground be held only with the residents of the areas.
Earlier, although unofficially, there was talk of several possibilities for changing the municipalities. Berisha stated that the SP wants to have only 32 municipalities, while the DP aims to have over 61.
Another option is to remove some of the powers of small municipalities by passing a legal amendment to create central municipalities.
However, so far there has been no concrete step towards revising the law.
