Hidden boycott?/ Berisha: DP will support independent candidates in Tirana and other municipalities
The Democratic Party will support independent candidates to win in the local by-elections, not only for the Municipality of Tirana, but also in the other 5 municipalities of the country. In a statement to the media after the meeting of the presidency, Berisha stated that the DP highly appreciates independent candidacies, for which Berisha emphasized that history has shown that they are more successful. The non-involvement of the DP, not directly in these elections but in a supporting position, seems mostly like a hidden, unofficial boycott.
Excerpt from the statement of the leader of the DP, Sali Berisha:
We had a long, responsible, free discussion.
What I consider to be an important step in our effort is that the DP, although it undoubtedly has candidates of caliber that cannot be compared to the criminal organization in power, will highly value and appreciate independent candidates.
I will consider with the greatest seriousness, independent candidates who are running as such and who consider the support of the Democratic Party necessary for their victory.
I believe that other opposition forces are also in a wave with this from the previous discussions.
And this not only in the municipality of Tirana, but also in other municipalities.
This is a moment, I would think, for all those citizens, intellectuals, those specialists, experts who feel ready to confront Edi Rama's narco-state, to measure their strength in a competition in the best interest of citizens to make the right decision.
