The European Union has reacted after Sali Berisha's statements and attacks on the EU Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato.
According to a European Commission spokesperson, such statements are unacceptable and the EU strongly condemns them.
The reaction emphasizes that the European Union Ambassador to Albania has always acted with complete professionalism and integrity in his duties.
Brussels also expresses full confidence in the ambassador and the work he is doing, underlining institutional support for him.
"Such statements are unacceptable. The EU strongly condemns the personal attacks made on Europe Day against the Ambassador of the European Union to Albania. The EU Ambassador has acted at all times with complete professionalism and integrity. We have full confidence in him and his work," reads the full response from an EC spokesperson.
Reaction of the ambassadors of EU countries accredited in Tirana
A similar statement was also distributed by the ambassadors of European Union countries accredited in Tirana.
The statement said that the ambassadors stand united 'in support of the EU Ambassador and his team, and reaffirm our full confidence in their professionalism, integrity and dedicated service'.
We recall that yesterday (May 9) on Europe Day, the leader of the Democrats, Sali Berisha, exploded with accusations against the head of the European Union delegation in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato.
Berisha has called Gonzato "Edi Rama's ambassador," who according to him has transmitted false information to Brussels.
Berisha has expressed that Gonzato is unified in his stances with the Rama government, while he has not hesitated to accuse his predecessors, whom he has called corrupt.
"As for the current ambassador, I have expressed that he behaves as if he were Edi Rama's ambassador, since this gentleman, in a proven manner, has transmitted the most untrue fabrications against the opposition in Brussels. As if the opposition is not for integration. Not to mention many others. And when discussing why Lubi Balluku's immunity was not lifted, his excellency, Gonzato, says that this is the Albanian interpretation of immunity", said, among other things, Berisha.
