The dirtiest object in the supermarket? You probably touch it every time you

Many people consider the supermarket one of the safest and cleanest places they visit every day. However, hygiene experts warn that some of the objects we touch without thinking may be carrying more germs than we realize.

One of them is the plastic divider that is placed on the checkout line to separate customers' purchases. Although it seems harmless, it passes from hand to hand hundreds of times during the day, being touched by different people.

Unlike supermarket trolleys or toilets, which are usually cleaned regularly, these plastic dividers are rarely included in disinfection processes. For this reason, specialists consider them to be high-risk surfaces for the accumulation of bacteria and microorganisms.

Every contact leaves behind traces of sweat, grease, food residue, or cosmetics. Over time, an invisible layer is created where microbes can attach and survive for long periods.

The problem doesn't stop with the object itself. After touching the divider, you can pick up fruit, use your phone, enter your card PIN, or touch your face, creating a chain of germ transfer from the surface to your hands and body.

Experts point out that the most contaminated objects in supermarkets are often those that are touched the most and cleaned the least. This list includes trolley handles, baskets, payment keypads, cash register screens and refrigerator handles.

To reduce the risk, it is recommended to disinfect the cart handle when possible, avoid placing fruits and vegetables directly on the checkout bar, use antiseptic after payment, and wash your hands as soon as you return home.

Small habits, but ones that can make a big difference in daily hygiene and health.
