The mystery of the 10 cm long alien skeleton is finally solved after years of

The incomprehensible mystery of an alien skeleton only 10 cm long seems to have finally been solved after several years of debate among researchers.

Researchers say they can now put the discovery behind them after finding the origin of the embalmed creature, later named 'Them'.

From its unusual appearance many people claimed that Ata was actually an alien after its discovery in 2003.

The small figure was found in the Atacama desert in Chile, from where it got its name, but the actual analysis was done almost a decade later in 2012.

A radiologist later discovered, analyzing the remains, that 'Them's' bones had the same level of maturity as a six-year-old human.

But still he was only 10 centimeters tall while his cone-shaped head impressed many observers.

The discovery became the center of many theories suggesting that Ata was an extraterrestrial who did not know how he ended up on planet earth.

But Garry Nolan, an immunologist at Stanford University in California, concluded that Ata's DNA was human and not alien.

For many the discovery was disappointing.

But still Nolan said he didn't know how a human being could have such a distinctive exterior.

He told the National Geographic network: "Once we realized it was human, the next step was to understand how it ended up with this look."

For this he and other researchers at Stanford and the University of California, San Francisco inspected the Ata genome.

They discovered several mutations in Ata's genes and concluded that the changes had caused the skeletal abnormalities, but not the fact that he was an alien.

They said the skeleton was either a stillborn human fetus, or one that died shortly after birth.

But the answer did not satisfy many enthusiasts of alien theories and the American ufologist Steven Greer, declared: "We don't know what it is, but it is certainly not a deformed man."
