Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has accused the opposition of blocking the work of the Assembly for a period of 11 months, during his speech at the parliamentary session called on the issue of electing the president.

Kurti emphasized that the Vetëvendosje Movement is not against political agreements, but against “political bargaining” between parties. According to him, a real compromise must be based on respecting the election result and institutional responsibility.

"The LVV has 51.1 percent of the responsibility for electing the president, but not 100 percent," Kurti said, adding that the fact that a party has fewer MPs does not exempt it from responsibility.

He criticized LDK and PDK for a lack of concrete initiatives and, as he expressed it, for their silence towards invitations for cooperation.

Kurti said that LVV has made efforts for a solution by inviting the leaders of opposition parties and proposing dialogue, but according to him, the opposition has not presented any name or proposal for president.

In his speech, the Prime Minister also emphasized that the constitutional deadline for electing the president has expired and warned that failure to reach an agreement could lead the country to new elections, which would be the fifth within 16 months.

The opposition, on the other hand, has accused the government and Kurti of propaganda and political exploitation of the presidential election process.
