''Independent candidate'', the next trick and trap that Berisha plays on the Democrats

The name of Ermal Hasime as a possible opposition candidate for Tirana trapped Sali Berisha's Democratic Party, which for days was busy inventing imaginary candidacies and avoiding the political debate of the day: the name of Ogerta Manastirliu's rival for the Municipality of Tirana.
It is useless to talk about the unpreparedness of the DP as the largest opposition party for a candidacy, while for months the Municipality of the capital has not been governed by Erion Veliaj. In the struggle to find a name, while the most suitable candidacies, that of Alimehmet and Tabaku, refused to run, other candidates began to declare themselves in the DP, none of whom actually meet the conditions to be even the head of a section group of a party that has competed as an equal with the SP in the capital.
Under these conditions, Agron Shehaj threw the name of Ermal Hasime on the table, once again putting the DP in the permanent trap when it comes to a figure with integrity: he could neither oppose him because of the sympathy that Hasime's name has in the non-militant part of the opposition, nor did he openly support him because of the steely concretization of the party by Sali Berisha. For this reason, the latter, after several days without a response, decided only today to support a candidate who is not officially from the DP, but who will be considered a joint candidate of the opposition.
This is also a trap set by the leader of the DP, who on this occasion "boycotts" the elections in the capital and hides from the confrontation with Edi Rama. And for this, the name of a candidate not from the DP will probably serve as a savior. In all calculations, knowing only a little about the functioning of that party, one understands that the opposition candidate outside the DP will not have the support promised by Sali Berisha. Not only are the structures of the Democrats in a state of panic on the worst day, but the shaping of an opposition figure as a candidate for Tirana, access to the media and the increase in the public profile of a young politician, far from the model of Sali Berisha, casts a shadow over the latter and his followers.
Sali Berisha has today removed responsibility for the loss of the Tirana Municipality. Now he will share the bill for the next loss with the "joint" candidates that he will support in press conferences and sabotage under the rug. The same as he did with Spartak Ngjela and Sokol Olldashi, when they were running for the Tirana Municipality.
Ermal Hasimja, in any case, is a candidate who receives more votes than any current DP MP in Tirana. But the rise of a figure who is not under his control is unacceptable for Sali Berisha, who at best will try hard to have Hasimja ranked lower than Arlind Qori. And at worst he will find a new hostile group that threatens the tower where he and a bunch of vassal MPs are sheltering.
Therefore, the offer for a candidacy outside the DP is the next trick that Sali Berisha plays on the Democrats to hide his inability to find a strong political figure, camouflaging this with the "openness" to candidates who are not part of the structures. Whoever accepts this offer is within his right to compete in an unequal race not only with the political opponent he will face, but will also bear all the known and unknown political machinations of Sali Berisha, including his "fluid alliances".
