If someone were to touch and remove the veil of our society, then the whole country would shake, along with the stench that would de-aromatize many of our historical fabrications. Hypocrisy, chameleonism and above all appearance, as a quality, have kept us in the dark and are today destroying the society of a country that has existed in several socio-economic systems and is always the last, compared to other Balkan countries.
The European reference to identity remains more geographical and now within the framework of EU enlargement, as we know very well where we are with economic parameters, the way we are treating and using the country, but above all our journey in continental integrations. The news referred to by the FAO (United Nations Food Program) has passed without any care and attention, according to which in the global map on the prevalence of malnutrition for the period 2022–2024, Albania has the highest level of malnutrition in Europe, being classified only with Ukraine, a country that has been struggling for years in war.
In fact, for those who live in Albania, the situation is not surprising. Referring to Eurostat and INSTAT, Albanians spend over 40% of their monthly income on food alone, the highest percentage in the entire continent. For comparison, in the countries of the European Union, this percentage is around 13% and in the region it fluctuates between 25-35% (Monitor, 2025). Do these parameters resonate?! And why is it impossible for us to follow even the policies of our neighbors to improve our lives?! We have entered a shell from which we cannot get out, while our society, impregnated with problems, unfortunately cannot encourage public debates of instances or interest structures, so that the Albanian of the 21st century can live at least like his neighbors. A thick film is growing everywhere: in our eyes, in our minds and "prevents" us from really seeing what is happening to us. For the ideologists of the last century, a time filled with totalitarianism, there was one idea, and it was related to the perception of freedom.
Sa më pak të lirë të jemi, aq më pak kemi mundësi t’i parashtrojmë si duhet problematikat tona. Sot, ne, nuk kemi më mundësi ta dëshmojmë lirinë sepse liria ka nevojë për dëshmi. Ne jetojmë thjesht për dukjen dhe statistikat boshe. Liria, në vetvete, kishte për rrjedhojë nevojë për një vend, në të cilin njerëzit mund të bëheshin bashkë-në agora, apo në treg, Polisi, apo hapësira publike, parashtronte në mesin e shekullit të shkuar Hannah Arendt. Sistemi politik me veshje demokratike i kohës sonë e ka goditur mbi të gjitha hapësirën politike, e cila tek ne nuk referohet me dy partitë kryesore në vend, por thjesht me pronësitë reale mbi to: Partia e Ramës dhe Partia e Berishës. Po të mos jetë Rama, do thoshte në një aktivitet partiak ministri aktual në detyrë i Drejtësisë, Manja, ne nuk do përballeshim dot me bazën. Ai i merr votat. Ashtu si tek PD-ja, ka gjithnjë e më shumë zëra që përsërisin të njëjtën gjë. “Pa Berishën, ne shkërmoqemi!”.
Paçka se PD-ja sot është një masë politike që nuk përfaqëson asgjë nga e Djathta e vendit dhe është më e shkërmoqur se kurrë. Kurse, PSja ka kohë që s’është më parti e Majtë. Bash kjo mungesë lirie na ka bërë të mos shohim as problematikat më të mëdha në vend dhe pabarazinë e madhe shoqërore, e cila me kohë po merr forma të konsoliduara. Janë pak duar që gjenerojnë gjithçka dhe ku shkon ndarja e pasurisë kombëtare, politikat e ligjeve bëhen vetëm për ta, ashtu si nga ana tjetër, shikon se njerëzit e PS dhe PD-së janë më shumë të lidhur sesa ndarja artificiale që kinse bëjnë në panelet në TV. Edhe kjo fazë e zhvillimit shqiptar po shkon ashtu si në diktaturë dhe në monarki: në mungesë lirie dhe në kuptimin shumë të ngushtë të saj. Ashtu si po forcohet një cipë që e ka veshur të gjithë realitetin tonë dhe ne e kemi të pamundur t’i shikojmë kufizimet tona. Në kuptimin e grekëve të vjetër edhe njerëzit që na drejtojnë sot s’janë të lirë, paçka pushtetit të frikshëm që posedojnë, sepse të jesh i lirë duhet të jesh i lirë mes të barabartëve. Herodoti e thoshte më “vrazhdë”: Liria është e barabartë me josundimin.
The more you seem to have power, and in fact today's rulers like Rama have it immeasurable and therefore are maintaining this frightening veil that has blocked us and does not let us develop, the more we are without freedom. And, again about freedom: Freedom is considered not simply that you are liberated, but that it must appear in every type of human activity and the latter, according to old philosophers, should be real, where people perceive, then judge and finally remember their acts, always not to the detriment of others. This is almost impossible today in this dictate of a centralized power of authority and lack of responsibility and exhausting moral decadence. Therefore, we should not be surprised that due to the lack of freedom we are not faced with truths. And, they are from thought to food, the basis of existence that is affecting the simple Albanian. And, when you come back to reality, you remember that: Albania maintains one of the highest VAT rates for food in Europe, at 20%, while countries in the region and the EU apply reduced rates (from 5% in North Macedonia to 0% in Ireland). This tax burden, combined with many factors, has artificially increased prices for the consumer.
Although, propaganda only talks about successes and the increase in tourists, but not at all about the truth that is already barely breaking through the veil, where freedom seeks to curb appearance: “The veil presented by a life of lies is made of strange materials. As long as the veil hermetically seals the whole of society, it seems as if it is as strong as a rock. But, the moment someone tears it in a single place, when one person shouts: 'The king is naked!' – when one person breaks the rules of the game, exposing it as a game, – everything suddenly appears in a different light and the whole veil seems to be thin, something that can be torn to pieces or disintegrated and there is nothing that can save it”, – we quote Harendt in “On the Revolution”, now translated into Albanian.
